The closing year

Probably the last one of this year:

A Diocletian antoninianus, a nice example I got for cheap.

Septimus Severus:

Except that a real denarius doesn’t end with “III” on the obverse.
Just wanted to let you know it’s likely to be quiet until quite after the holidays. Just been changing the distilled water and Gringgott’s #1 in my various soaking containers, and not really even been scrubbing much. Will be with my folks for Christmas, then my brother is going to come and visit me for New Year’s, then a friend is going to come on the New York leg of his “world tour”, so I probably won’t get at anything until after then. So, if I don’t post until then, happy holidays, and see you next year!

Here it is after some application of the Dremel:

It’s Aurelian, an antoninianus. Don’t know if I’ll continue, you can see some scratches where the bare bronze peeks through, though it’s not that bad right now.
I bought this mostly clean, except the person cleaning gave up at about this point:

I’m working on it slowly with my Dremel tool, and I haven’t ruined it yet. Let’s see if I can keep it up.

Got this in a batch of denarii:

Turns out it’s one of these, which (in better condition) sold for over $1000. Pretty cool.

Hi, I’ve been under the weather of late, so I haven’t been doing much in the way of scrubbing. Last time I was at it, though, the enormity of that 1000 coin purchase finally hit me. Wow. I still have a LOT of coins from that I need to clean. And I’m not even talking about the really incrusted ones, either, just the moderately covered ware, that a little Gringgott’s should do pretty well. Yeah, baby, yeah. Will keep you posted, as always, on what’s going on. Cheers.
