And here we go…

This will be my progress in my new hobby, which would be cleaning and collecting ancient (Roman) coins. Thus the name: Ancienti. I poked around with a different name before choosing this one (see the comment for what that was), but this one does real well.

I’ve been reading various how-to’s on how to clean these coins, and I’ve gotten a starter kit, which itself has instructions. So far, out of the 5 that came with the kit, one has turned out to be a slug (completely worn down), and one has turned out to be completely corroded. One I’ve cleaned and it seems to have detail, but I’m seeing if more dirt can be cleaned off without ruining it. Which I’ll probably do, since I really have no idea what I’m doing.

I’ve ordered more unclean coins, and they should be coming any day now. I went on a spending spree for about a week buying all kinds of stuff for this new endeavor of mine. There’s something to be said about working with your hands, if it’s only in just the act of scrubbing off centuries of caked on dirt.
